Rodent Control Salem & Seymour | Mice & Rats in Washington & Jackson County, IN
Hearing scratching in the walls, finding droppings in the pantry, or spotting a mouse in Salem or Seymour? Greener Pest Management provides professional rodent control across Washington County, IN and Jackson County, IN—including Brownstown and surrounding Southern Indiana communities. We deal primarily with house mice (Mus musculus) and rats such as the Norway rat (Rattus norvegicus). Our approach is inspection first, then trapping and/or baiting as the situation calls for—and an exclusion mindset so you’re not stuck in a catch-and-replace loop. Sealing entry points is part of lasting control. Ask about exclusion during your Pest Assessment.
Mouse & Rat Control That Solves the Cause—Not Just the Sightings
Rodents don’t need a messy house to move in. House mice (Mus musculus) can squeeze through gaps roughly the size of a dime. Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus) need a bit more space—about the size of a quarter—but once they’re in, they exploit the same weak points Southern Indiana homes already have: foundation gaps, garage door seals, utility penetrations, crawlspace vents, and unsealed openings around pipes and AC lines.
At Greener Pest Management—Veteran-owned, founded April 2021, and based in Washington County—we don’t treat rodent work as “set a few traps and hope.” We inspect, identify pressure points, reduce the population with the right tools, and point you toward sealing entry points so control lasts. Straight talk. No agency fluff.
Why Choose Greener Pest Management for Rodent Control?
Catching one mouse isn’t the same as solving a rodent problem. Mice (Mus musculus) breed quickly, and rats (Rattus norvegicus) often use different travel routes and harborage than people expect. We focus on:
- Inspection of interior activity zones and exterior entry opportunities.
- Trapping and/or baiting matched to species, location, and risk (kids, pets, livestock, and food areas change the tool choice).
- Exclusion mindset—identifying and prioritizing openings that keep inviting the next wave in.
- Clear communication about what we found, what we’re doing, and what still needs sealed.
Sealing entry points is part of lasting control. Ask about exclusion during your Pest Assessment. On this page, we keep the focus on active rodent control—and make sure exclusion stays part of the conversation so you’re not paying for the same catch cycle every fall.
Our Rodent Control Process
Here’s what to expect when you call Greener Pest Management for mice or rats in Washington County or Jackson County.
1. Detailed Property Assessment
We look for droppings, rub marks, gnawing, nesting material, runways, and entry points—indoors and where the structure meets the ground. Identifying whether you’re dealing with house mice (Mus musculus), Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus), or another rodent changes trap size, bait strategy, and where we focus.
2. Targeted Population Reduction
Based on the inspection, we use trapping, baiting, or a combination—placed where rodents actually travel, not where they look convenient for a photo. Tool choice respects the layout of your home and any pet, child, or food-safety considerations you flag during the assessment.
3. Entry-Point Findings & Exclusion Direction
While we’re there, we note the openings and conditions that let rodents keep pressing the structure. You’ll leave with a clear picture of what should be sealed. For dedicated sealing work, exclusion work focuses on closing the gaps we find; this rodent control visit gets activity under control and starts that conversation honestly.
4. Follow-Through
Rodent pressure can rebound if openings stay open or if a larger population is still outside. We explain what to expect, schedule follow-up as your plan requires, and stand behind covered work with the same satisfaction-focused follow-through we use elsewhere: if the issue persists per plan, you call and we respond.
The Greener Pest Management Advantage: Benefits for You

Dog-Friendly Rat Plan That Worked
I had a problem with rats. I'm back in the woods next to a river and in the winter these rats started making their way into the house. Greener came out and set up bait traps and came up with a game plan to help eliminate this problem. They gave me tips and suggestions on doing a few things that may help keep the rats from coming in the house and garage. The bait traps are dog friendly so I didn't have to worry about my dogs. Very friendly, informative and helpful throughout it all. Great prices and great to work with.

Rodent Control FAQs for Salem, Seymour & Southern Indiana
Straight answers to the mouse and rat questions we hear most in Washington County and Jackson County—plus how control ties into sealing entry points.
Yes, it matters. House mice (Mus musculus) are smaller, leave finer droppings, and can enter through very small gaps. Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus) are larger, leave bigger droppings, and often travel along foundations, clutter piles, and burrow-friendly soil. Trap size, bait placement, and exclusion priorities change with the species. If you’re unsure what you’re seeing in Salem, Seymour, or Brownstown, save a clear photo of droppings or the animal (if safely possible) and schedule a Pest Assessment—we’ll identify it and build the right plan.
Because catching individuals doesn’t close the door. House mice (Mus musculus) reproduce quickly, and Southern Indiana homes—especially older foundations and outbuildings in Washington County and Jackson County—often have multiple entry points. If gaps around pipes, garage seals, vents, or siding stay open, you’re running a revolving door. Trapping reduces the indoor population; lasting control needs an exclusion mindset. We handle active control here, and exclusion work focuses on closing the gaps we find, so you’re not stuck resetting snap traps every season.
Bait has a place in professional rodent work, but it isn’t automatic for every home. Placement, station type, and whether we lean more on trapping depend on your layout and who shares the space. During the Pest Assessment we’ll ask about pets, kids, livestock, and food storage, then choose tools that fit—not a one-size “poison everywhere” approach. If bait isn’t the right fit for part of your property, we’ll say so and use trapping and exclusion guidance instead.
Rodent Control focuses on inspecting activity and reducing the current mouse (Mus musculus) or rat (Rattus norvegicus) population with trapping and/or baiting as appropriate. Exclusion work focuses on closing the entry points we find that let rodents keep getting in. Most lasting solutions need both: get numbers down, then close the gaps. Ask about exclusion during your Pest Assessment; on control visits we still identify openings and tell you what should be sealed next.
That’s a fair question. Many “free inspections” are really sales appointments—often with a commission-based rep. Our Pest Assessment is performed by a lead technician with real field experience. We identify the rodent, find entry points and conditions driving activity, and give you a plan built on proven steps—not guesswork. If you move forward with treatment, the Pest Assessment is credited toward your service. ---
